Kawika4-string tenor for sale |
I would describe this instrument as a "Style 3". There is laminated blackwood binding and paua purfling around the top and paua inlay around the soundhole. A thin, clear fingernail guard covers the upper half of the front of the instrument as it does for all the ukuleles I make.
The top is multicolored redwood. The back, sides and neck are figured koa wood. The fretboard, bridge, tuner buttons and string tree are ebony. The saddle is bone.
The tuners are Stewart-MacDonald 4:1 gear ratio, planetary dulcimer tuners with ebony buttons.
The instrument has been finished with Tru-Oil. The Tru-Oil finish is thin and durable. Tru-oil has been used by both guitar and violin makers for a number of years with success. This thin layer allows the instrument to vibrate more freely than thicker layers of finish.
I have tried to faithfully portray the color and figure of the instrument in the accompanying photos.
Here are several simple sound files to give a sense of the sound quality of the instrument (in spite of my poor playing ability). (to download double-click or option-click)
